'Cycling through the Trees' in National Park Bosland is located at node 272 of the cycling route network in the natural area of the Pijnven, which is part of the dense forest landscape of National Park Bosland.

A bike path that respects the forest

The posts that support the bike path symbolize the straight trunks of the pine trees in which it is situated. This ensures that the construction blends beautifully into the surroundings. The forests of the Pijnven mainly consist of coniferous trees planted decades ago for the production of mine timber. However, due to the closure of the Limburg coal mines, these trees were never felled.

We are now improving this situation through a tailored forest management plan. Smaller native trees in the lower layer of the forest will receive more space and light to grow. The trees that were felled have found a second life in the pavilion at the entrance of 'Cycling through the Trees' in National Park Bosland. The pavilion serves as a resting and information point for cyclists and hikers.

'Cycling through the Trees' in National Park Bosland is a project of Visit Limburg, in collaboration with Province Limburg, LSM, Tourism Flanders, the municipality of Hechtel-Eksel, Nature and Forest, and National Park Bosland.
