Current mining past be-MINE Beringen

The route not only offers you a beautiful view of the impressive mining heritage of Limburg, but at the same time you discover the overwhelming beauty and soothing experience of nature, forest management, and recreational cycling routes that Limburg can rightly be proud of. Perfectly signposted junction cycling route, mainly car-free and very low in traffic with excellently maintained bike paths.

The route starts at be-MINE, the former mine site in Beringen, where ample free parking is available. You cycle through the nature reserve of the Valley of the Black Brook towards Houthalen-Helchteren. At Kasteelbrouwerij Ter Dolen, everyone gets the chance to quench their dry throat, time for a stop? Then it continues to Heusden-Zolder. On the old coal track, you pedal further to the Albert Canal. Along the way, you encounter forests and meadow landscapes. Ultimately, the coal track brings you back to be-MINE where you will learn more about the mining history on and along the path.

Along the route, you cycle past many nice picnic spots, but definitely also discover one of the particularly nice, quality, and welcoming brasseries in the area. Limburg hospitality at its best! A few recommendations: Brasserie Den Noordkant, Helchteren, and Het Waterzicht, Lummen (by the Albert Canal).
