Tour Puurs Sint - Amands

Puurs-Sint-Amands is a merged municipality in the Belgian province of Antwerp, which was created by the merger of the former merged municipalities of Puurs (consisting of Puurs, Breendonk, Liezele, Ruisbroek and Kalfort) and Sint-Amands (consisting of Sint-Amands, Oppuurs and Lippelo) on 1 January 2019.

The St. Peter's Church of Sint Amands is known as the most beautiful parish church in the area. It has been protected since 1974 and was completely restored and re-inaugurated in 1988. In 2002, many statues and ornaments from the interior of the church were restored. In 2017, the municipality celebrated its 725th anniversary. The highlight was the installation of a carillon with fifty bells in the church tower. During the Summer of Puurs, carillon concerts take place regularly on Sundays and Thursdays.

New York has its Central Park. Berlin are Tiergarten. Antwerp are Park Spoor Noord. And Puurs? Puurs also has a landscape park: between JOC WIJland and Fort Liezele. It is a green oasis where you can spend your free time with pleasure. Fort Liezele is one of the best preserved and restored armoured forts of the Antwerp Fortress. The fort dates from the beginning of the 20th century, withstood the two world wars and is now a fortification building gem in a green zone. A large part of the fort is set up as a museum, which highlights the history of the building and its surroundings during both world wars. In the museum rooms you will discover a unique collection of original equipment, uniforms, weapons and photographic material. In the Asparagus Village with numerous stalls in the village center of the municipality, the Asparagus Festival will take place in the coming weeks, to which numerous activities are connected. The Emiel Verhaeren Museum was also given a place in this green fusion municipality.
