Eighty years ago, the Bütgenbach reservoir was built in the Holzwarche valley. Such an artificial lake always seems a little unnatural, but this awkwardness does not bother you during the hiking loop around the water plain in Bütgenbach. After all, the ten-kilometer walk shows a surprising amount of variations. You first step over the high dam, then approach the shore, and then again through the adjacent forests or meadows. In the wet side valleys you step over a wooden deck. You also walk a long path along the Holzwarche, the small peat stream that filled this huge lake. There are many quiet coves for picnics. Please note that swimming is not allowed. For strollers, there are annoying passages, so dad has to lift for a while. The signposted loop is integrated into the pedestrian network of the Eastern Township. With the attached map or app, you can extend the visit.
