FRAMERIES – From black to green

Follow this walk that meanders through the old mining landscapes of the Borinage, which today look green and bucolic.
Head to the headframe that rises 100 meters above you: here you are at the Pass. This steel monster reflects the epic of coal mining in the Borinage in the 19th century. Shortly after the RAVeL, you stroll along country roads to Ciply, which at the time formed the border between two worlds: that of the farmers and that of the mine. Further on, the path winds through a birch forest that covers an old coal mine. At the edge of the forest, fields and meadows lead you to small cottages that seem crushed by the spoil tip (tailings) of l’Héribus, where you climb up. On the slope, a beautiful birch forest covers the rubble: today, the spoil tips have become oases of calm for abundant fauna and flora. You return to Frameries along old railway lines that were used to transport coal. They have become great passages in this landscape marked by a turbulent industrial past.
