About the total destruction of an ancient city. Dendermonde is one of the 7 Belgian 'Martyr Towns' where the Germans wreaked havoc in August-September 1914. You start at the Grote Markt and walk along the courthouse, the war monument on the Heldenplein, the Brusselse Poort through which the Germans entered the city and along the Nieuw Kwartier, a beautiful green part of Dendermonde.
