Discovery loop Monheim old town tour

The Monheimer Discovery Loop starts in the Rheinbogen Landscape Park with its wide range of leisure activities for families and sports enthusiasts. The natural walking path first leads you up to Marienburg from here. This remarkable stately villa was built in the 19th century as a summer residence for the Cologne lawyer and politician Eugen von Kesseler. Today it serves as a conference and congress center. It is surrounded by the park of the same name, which offers a wonderful view of the Rhine foreland as a green oasis in the city center.

Next, you will reach the quaint Monheim Old Town. Here, exciting sights await you such as the Carnival Cabinet and the Schelmenturm, the city's landmark. Numerous restaurants, beer gardens, and cafes around the Old Market invite you to take a break.

Then, the Discovery Loop takes you through Monheim's central shopping street to the Marienkapelle. Since the Middle Ages, pilgrims have come here by land and by water because the miraculous image on the altar is considered miraculous. In the immediate vicinity stands the former residence of the painter August Deusser. Built around 1840, it now houses the Historical Collection of Monheim am Rhein. Here, you will encounter the neanderland STEIG again, which will lead you back to the Monheimer Rheinbogen via the Rhine promenade.
