IES Jaume Vicens Vives

Jaume Vicens Vives Secondary School is a Catalan state secondary school located in the city of Girona . It has around of 900 pupils from ages 12 to 18 studying the Spanish secondary education programs . It is the only state secondary school in Catalonia to offer the International Baccalaureate.
The Spanish Government founded the secondary school in 1845, as part of a large plan for ameliorate the secondary studies. For this, a center was founded in every capital of province. So, the 17 September a new secondary school was established in Girona, at the ancient monastery of the Friars Minor Capuchin. With little resources, provided by the provincial government the school bought important collections in Paris of natural history, botanics, chemistry and physics, as well as it created an important library for the alumni and, at the same time, for the inhabitants of the city of Girona.
