Welcome to the 'Ninglinspo' Valley

The curious name 'Ninglinspo' is the result of a spelling mistake by French cartographers who twisted a large number of place names in the Ourthe department which was created in 1876. They exchanged the name of the stream with the name of the parcel where the stream flows into the Amblève. This piece of land was called: "En Inglin spau", that is to say at the source of Inglin, name of the person whose trace is lost.

The original name of the stream is actually 'Le Doulneux' (Latin: Dulnosus) which shows that it comes from an alder forest. In the charter of 'Sigebert III' of 647, this name is already mentioned.

The names of the various baths and wells that have been formed by water over the years and that are located throughout the promenade N°21, were designed by 'Laurent-François Dethier'. It was a lawyer from Theux, delegate of the Council of Five Hundred in Paris, who played a very active role in the Revolution of Franchimont in 1789 and in the convening of the Congress of Polleur.

This small valley was completely cleaned and restored to good condition by students as part of the Walloon Region's 2005 Solidarity Summer Operation in collaboration with the municipality of Aywaille.
