The trail leads through the Lower Saxon part of the Drömling, the largest wetland in the region with international importance. Since the 18th century, the Drömling has been drained and cultivated several times through human intervention. Habitats of animals and plants have been altered and even threatened in their existence. At seven stations, the trail shows the transformation of a natural landscape into a cultural landscape.
