Let's start in Bad Bodenteich. There is so much to experience here that it's best to plan for an extra day: the former castle with museums, barefoot path and Robin Hood Castle, the Seewiesen, the Seepark with dragon playground, mini golf and pedal boat rental, or the Bodenteicher Heide. Bodenteich is a fabulous place - hundreds of years ago, a ghost is said to have haunted the woods of Bodenteich and frightened the people who trembled as they carried it around without a spirit on their necks. You cycle relaxedly over the countryside to Lüder. Here stands the approximately 600-year-old St. Bartholomew's Church, which used to belong to the Isenhagen Monastery. A few steps away is the "Riese von Lüder". The massive erratic block was salvaged during the construction of the Elbe-Seitenkanal and is one of the largest geological objects of its kind in Lower Saxony. Behind Lüder, the bike tour leads along the bird and nature reserve Schweimker Moor and Lüderbruch - an important breeding and resting place for cranes. Near Hankensbüttel, in the district of Emmen, stands one of the oldest water mills in eastern Lower Saxony. It was already mentioned in a document in 1225. At that time, Emmen was just a place with eight fireplaces and that very mill. The mill is still mechanically functional today. In the idyllic Otter-Zentrum Hankensbüttel located on the Isenhagen See, otters, badgers, martens, polecats, and ermines frolic. On the nature grounds, you can watch the animals during feeding times. There are play areas for children and - also for adults - adventure games. On the other side of the lake, the Isenhagen Monastery awaits. During a tour, valuable art treasures such as altarpieces, pearl embroideries, and medieval furniture with the throne of the founder Duchess Agnes can be seen. Tel. 05832-313. Heading north, the journey continues to the Bokeler Heide nature reserve, a typical heath landscape with common heather, juniper, birch, and pine trees. At the eastern edge of Bokel lies the "Bullenkuhle", a nature reserve steeped in legend: in dark nights, a bull is said to haunt here. He is somewhat of a symbol of Bokel. However, he is not the only one - he faces competition from a 318-meter-high transmission mast, which was Germany's tallest structure when it was built in 1961. The path leads back to Bad Bodenteich via Reinstorf. Here you can end the day on the playground, with a pedal boat on the park lake, or in the outdoor pool.
