First built in 1683, the building is in danger of falling into ruin. It was enlarged in 1700. In 1706, the new parish church was consecrated by the coadjutor of the bishop of Basel. The main altar is dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption, the side altars to the Blessed Virgin of Mount Carmel and to the Holy Family. The choir faces west and the tower faces east, i.e. from west to east.
In 1820, the town council decided to build a new parish church to replace the one built in 1706 which was in danger of collapsing. The financing of the building (31,918 francs) was entirely taken care of by the municipality, which placed the sandstone quarry of Kalblin at the disposal of the company and decided to cut 255 fir trees for the construction of the framework and other woodwork. The construction of the new church was finished around 1823, keeping the same location23.
The original orientation was changed, however. The church of Our Lady of the Assumption was oriented in the direction of the valley (north-east-south-west). The first mass was celebrated on April 18, 1824, Easter day. The bells of the old church have been kept. The bell tower has a copper dome with four sides. In 1917, the Germans had the bells melted down so that the army could obtain iron to buy war material. The church was restored again after the Second World War. In the parish church, there are five magnificent paintings from the former convent of Aspach.
