Now we know it as the highway connection between Pasadena and Los Angeles. But dit you know that this connection was the first cycling highway in the world. It was built and run by the California Cycleway Company at the end of the 19th century. The path had no intersections and was built from wood. The company California Cycleway rented bikes at the beginning and the end of the 14 km long path. The company had to stop its activity because of the emerging use of the car. So cycling highways as we find them now in the Netherlands are not a new invention.
