Monza è un comune italiano di 121 681 abitanti, capoluogo della provincia di Monza e della Brianza in Lombardia e centro di una delle aree più produttive d'Europa.
È il terzo comune della regione Lombardia per popolazione, preceduto da Milano e da Brescia.
In epoca romana è attestata come Moguntiacum , ma altri autori segnalano il vicus di Modicia, anche se nel territorio monzese sono state rinvenute testimonianze di presenze umane molto anteriori. Monza si trovava sulla Via Aurea o Via Spluga, strada consolare romana diretta a Como e al passo dello Spluga.
