Bigues i Riells és un municipi a la comarca del Vallès Oriental, amb capital actualment a Bigues . Està format pels pobles de Bigues i Riells del Fai, al qual només s'hi pot accedir per la carretera BV-1483, i un munt d'urbanitzacions, de segona residència. Els dos pobles havien tingut ajuntaments separats, però des de mitjan segle xix estan integrats en el mateix terme municipal, així com l'antiga parròquia rural de Sant Mateu de Montbui.
