According to records in the cathedral chapter ledger, Jakob von Mauer owned the estate of Mauer in the year 1350; it is not entirely confirmed if this Jakob descends from the Lungau family of von der Mauer. It is originally suspected that there was a residential tower here, as was common for Pongau.
Afterwards, the ownership passed to the Graf family. Konrad Graf had exchanged his position as the provost of the ledger of Werfen with the judgeship in Radstadt in 1344. His son Heinrich acquired Schernberg Castle in 1370 and also took over the noble title from the extinct Schernberger family. In 1396, Konrad II became the guardian of Radstadt. In the following generations, each member of the family held the position of guardian. This marked the beginning of acquiring several lordships in this area, including Schernberg Castle, then around 1400 the Grafenhaus in Radstadt, and also Tandalier Castle and Lerchen Castle.
