Winter Walk to the Hintersteiner See Lake

With its idyllic location and glistening winter coat, the Hintersteiner See lake just a few kilometres from Scheffau in the Wilder Kaiser Mountains is a jewel well worth disocvering. This walk leads along both roads and forest trails around the lake. Its flat profile makes it suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels, though sturdy winter shoes are needed - in snowy winters the southern shore of the lake can be a little tricky to walk along.
From the car park next to the Seestüberl café in Hinterstein, the route leads along a tarmac road in a westerly direction past an open-air swimming pool. Follow the shore of the lake until, after 1.8 kilometres, you get to the western shore. From there it is just a few metres to the bus stop next to the Jausenstation Maier snack station. Turn left here and, after 250 metres, left again onto the walking trail. This trail leads through the forest on the southern shore of the lake all the way to the hamlet of Greidern. There, switch to the tarmac road, turn left and walk back to the starting point.
