Hoegaarden is a Belgian witbier (witbier is a type of beer with a light, cloudy color, brewed with a lot of wheat and spices) originating from ... Hoegaarden of course!. It is now one of the most famous and beloved Belgian witbiers worldwide, often associated with refreshing, light, and aromatic beer enjoyment.
Although witbier has been brewed here for centuries (since the 15th century), this tradition disappeared for a while during the 20th century. In the 1960s, a renewed recipe breathed new life into the brewery, which contributed to its current international fame. Special ingredients that were added include coriander seeds and dried orange peels, giving it a unique character.
Today, it is one of the icons of Belgian beer culture and embodies the successful formula of tradition and contemporary branding.
