Julius de Geyter (1830-1905) was born in Lede (near Aalst) on April 25, 1830, and moved to Antwerp at the age of 18, where he lived and worked for the rest of his life. Julius de Geyter (1830-1905) was a Flemish journalist, poet, and supporter of Flemish nationalism who vigorously advocated for the continuation and dissemination of the work and ideals of Multatuli (Eduard Douwes Dekker). He is seen as the main advocate for Multatuli in Flanders and was a progressive-liberal Grand Nederlandse with an active role in the Flemish Movement.
In Antwerp, he worked as a teacher, translator, editor, and later as director of the Bank of Loans. He was involved in literary magazines such as De Vlaamsche School and wrote poetry, cantatas, and retellings such as that of Reinaert de Vos. His residence was in Antwerp; one of the known addresses where he lived was at Venusstraat 11.
