K24 - Manifold and pump

Before we explain how it works, you should know that the holding basin consists of two parts that can function both separately and together, namely an inner and an outer basin. Both are separated from each other by a dike. The outer basin connects to the ramparts of Diest.

At this location, the excess water of the Leugebeek is let into the 'Webbekoms Broek' holding basin. Under normal circumstances, the Leugebeek drains into the Kleine Leigracht in the outer basin. Of course, this is only possible when the water level in the Broek is lower than in the Leugenbeek. But when the outer basin is activated as a water reservoir during excessive rainfall, the water of the Kleine Leigracht and therefore also of the Leugenbeek is dammed up. To prevent flooding upstream of the Leugenbeek in the village center of Webbekom, a slide in this artwork K24 can ensure that the Leugenbeek is disconnected from the Kleine Leigracht. In practice, this happens when the water of the Kleine Leibeek rises to the level of 21m. The water then flows into the pump cellar and is pumped into the inner basin . This happens at a flow rate of 2m3 per second by the permanently present pumps. By installing an additional pump can increase the flow rate by another 2m3 per second.
