K30 - Valve weir on the Grote Leigracht

The inner and outer basins are connected by the Grote Leigracht. The basins can be separated from each other by this valve weir. By pulling it up, only the inner basin is filled. If necessary, the weir will be lowered in a controlled manner, so that the outer basin adjacent to the ramparts of Diest can also be filled.

In order to drain the inner basin, the connection must be restored and the valve is lowered. The water now flows under the Demer via the Grote Leigracht and the siphon that we will talk about later, and is discharged into the Zwarte Beek. Just to remind you: not a drop of water from the Demer enters the holding basin. Only the water from important tributary streams, such as the Begijnenbeek, is collected in the basin.
