The major work, Cows on Their Way to the Heath is by Florent Crabeels, another innovator in 19th-century painting. Crabeels is called the painter of light and Pol De Mont referred to him as 'our first Belgian luminist'. The back shows the work The Coal Field, a piece in which light also dominates. He was very close friends with Heymans, who was ten years younger but still greatly influenced by him. Crabeels lived in part of the house of Janneke 'Tijs' Van de Voet, (by the bridge over the highway) an unmarried farmer (photo on the board).
