On Sunday, September 10, you can discover monuments throughout Flanders. In Beernem, we will be cycling on a chapel tour. Because what is more connected to our countryside than the many chapels you encounter along the way? This small heritage may soon be overlooked, but each chapel has its own story.
The Mary Chapel on the Maria-Aaltersteenweg is the starting point of a 17.5 km cycling loop along well-known and lesser-known chapels in Sint-Joris, Beernem, and Zeldonk. This memorial chapel was established in 1866 and is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Mary. This beautiful chapel is usually locked, but on Open Monument Day you can also take a look inside and maybe light a candle.
