Dune Belt - red - 9.2 km

The Commanderij Gruitrode was one of the twelve commanderies of the Teutonic Order that were subordinate to the land commander of Alden Biesen until 1801. The Commanderij consisted of a castle separated by ditches and a square farmhouse.
Currently, the Commanderij Gruitrode is undergoing phased restoration to become a hotspot for culture and events. Additionally, the site will serve as a gateway to the Dune Belt, helping visitors navigate this northern part of the Hoge Kempen National Park.
The Oudsberg is a land dune that rises 30 to 40 meters above the Kempen Plateau and is managed by the Agency for Nature and Forest. To reach the top, you need to climb a bit, but it is well worth it. At the top, you can enjoy a beautiful view over the Dune Belt. If you look south, you can see, across the Bosbeek Valley, the southern part of the Hoge Kempen National Park.
