This story is based on the book by Matthias M.R. Declercq, which he wrote in 2016. A book about a group of cyclists who got to know each other along this route. Five boys, five nice boys. More or less by chance, they meet over a period of a few years, at the beginning of this century, because they all share a common goal: the race. They all aspire to have a career as professional cyclists. Along the route by the Scheldt, from Ghent to Oudenaarde, they train together. Iljo Keisse, Wouter Weylandt, Dimitri De Fauw, Bert De Backer, and Kurt Hovelijnck. They are young, vibrant, popular, and actually manage to become professional cyclists. Their finest hour, once they do. But life proves to be harder than the dream. What brought them together, the race, also tears them apart. Relentlessly and irrevocably. Five boys, five nice boys.
