Valais Cycling Tour: Verbier - Champéry (stage 8) Velo in Verbier

After leaving Verbier, you will have a nice warm-up exploring the Val de Bagnes. The first climb awaits between Orsières and the entrance to the Val Ferret and the pastoral Lake Champex. Before your descent into the valley, you take a detour along the old road towards the Col de la Forclaz to enjoy the view above Martigny and the Rhone Valley. The final climb up Val d’Illiez takes you via Les Giettes towards Champery via an impressive high-mountain road perched along the base of the cliffs of the Dents du Midi.
After leaving behind the resort of Verbier and the Bagnes Valley, you ride in the direction of the Grand-St-Bernard pass and Italy, avoiding the main road until the village of Orsières. Then you discover the little resort of Champex with its lake seemingly suspended between the mountains and the sky. On the return to the Rhone Valley, the route passes through the Col de la Forclaz just above Martigny and ancient city that dates back to roman times. Between Martigny and St-Maurice, you have a nice topographically “easy” section before attacking the climb to Les Giettes. On the descent from Les Giettes, you take a left on a small road to enter into the Illiez Valley for the final climb. A panoramic view of the Dents du Midi and the Dentes Blanches will inspire you up into the valley. But if your legs are feeling a bit too tired, roll down to Monthey and catch a lift to Champéry via the AOMC train from Monthey centre. Take note that the AOMC train station is not the same as the CFF train station.
After an effort, relax! Nothing is more relaxing for sore muscles than a good hot bath in the thermal waters of Val d’Illiez, from where you can also enjoy a stunning view over the mountains.
Train TMR Martigny>Le Châble then gondola from Le Châble > Verbier.
From the autoroute E27 Martigny Grand Saint Bernard, follow signs to Grand-Saint-Bernard / Verbier until Sembrancher, then follow signs to Verbier / Le Châble.
This tour is one stage of the Valais Cycling tour where the finish is not at the same place as the starting point. Therefore, we recommend arriving by public transport. Otherwise there is a parking at Le Châble, follow the local park routeing to access them. 
We recommend: bike in excellent working order, helmet, gloves and bell, clothing suitable for the weather (always carry a waterproof), food and drink.
