Hotel on Luisenplatz

Luisenplatz in Potsdam is located at the western end of the city center pedestrian zone Brandenburger Straße in front of the Brandenburger Tor and thus outside the city area of 1733. Three streets lead west from the square: Zeppelinstraße towards Brandenburg an der Havel, Zimmerstraße into the Potsdam district of Brandenburger Vorstadt, and the avenue to Sanssouci to the Green Gate, a representative entrance to the royal-imperial park Sanssouci.
Luisenplatz was created together with the city wall around 1733, as part of the second expansion of the city, initially as a wood collection point. On December 21, 1793, the 17-year-old Princess Luise of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, who later became famous as Queen Luise, was received here in the former residence city of the Prussian kings and German emperors. In 1854, Luisenplatz was redesigned by the garden artist and General Garden Director of the royal Prussian Gardens, Peter Joseph Lenné, and equipped with a fountain.
