Kaarz Castle

The manor house Schloss Kaarz belongs to the municipality of Weitendorf in the Sternberger Seenlandschaft district and forms the center of an estate complex. It is located in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern between Schwerin and Güstrow. The castle is used for tourism and serves as a hotel, café, and restaurant.

The Kaarz estate was founded in the 17th century. In 1796, the Weltzien family received it as a pledge and from 1797 to 1814 as an hereditary estate. In 1816, Burchard Hartwig von Bülow purchased the manor. After his death, Eduard Wilhelm von Bülow became the owner in 1849. The estate remained in the possession of the von Bülow family until 1869. In 1872, it was purchased by the Hamburg shipowner and merchant Julius Hüniken. He had the current manor house built by architects Friedrich Saniter and Albrecht Becker and the park landscaped.
