Megalithic Tomb Wulfen

The Wulfen megalithic tomb is a Neolithic megalithic tomb on the "Hoher Berg" in Wulfen, a present-day district of the unified municipality of Osternienburger Land in the district of Anhalt-Bitterfeld. It dates back to the Walternienburg-Bernburg culture.
Originally, there were two megalithic tombs in Wulfen, but one of them was destroyed in 1883. The preserved complex belongs to the type of passage graves. It consists of eight wall stones and three capstones. The length of the grave is 3.60 m. On the south side there is an entrance to the burial chamber. The tomb was discovered and opened in 1784. The finds made in the process are now in the museum of Köthen and testify to a long-lasting use of the grave complex. These include flint artefacts and ceramics from the Neolithic Walternienburg-Bernburg culture, house and face urns from the early Iron Age as well as body burials of the Niemberg Group during the Migration Period. During follow-up investigations in 1912, a cup of Bernburg culture was found.
