Swabian Alb

The Swabian Alb is one of the most beautiful low mountain ranges in Germany and a paradise for hikers, cyclists and nature lovers. This area is distinguished by its unique combination of nature, culture and geology. You will find two UNESCO- protected areas here: the Swabian Alb Biosphere Reserve and the Swabian Alb Geopark . This region is known for its vast forests, steep limestone cliffs, deep caves, clear rivers and impressive waterfalls such as the Uracher Wasserfall .

The landscape is undulating with spectacular cliffs and views in some places. This makes for varied walks and bike rides, where you are treated to new views every time. The Swabian Alb offers an extensive network of hiking trails, including premium walks such as the Wasserfallsteig (voted the most beautiful hiking trail in Germany) and the Grafensteige around Bad Urach. Here you walk past castles, castle ruins, waterfalls and through romantic gorges. For the real enthusiast there is the Albsteig , a 350 kilometre long hiking trail over the 'balcony of the south', with countless highlights and beautiful nature.

Cyclists can enjoy routes such as the Swabian Alb Cycle Path (310 km) and the Albtäler Cycle Path , which takes you through the most beautiful valleys and over green alpine pastures. Mountain bikers can enjoy the Bike X-ing Swabian Alb , with challenging climbs and descents.

The German Half-timbered House Route also runs through the region, ideal for those who want to combine nature and culture, with stops in picturesque villages full of half-timbered houses.

In addition to nature, you will find fairytale castles, castle ruins, charming villages and towns such as Bad Urach , Tübingen and Sigmaringen . The region is rich in history and archaeology, with museums and sights such as the Meteor Crater Museum and the Beuron Monastery .
