Stiege Station

The Stiege train station is a junction station in the network of the Harzer narrow-gauge railways in Stiege. There, line 9702 branches off from line 9703, the main route of the Selketalbahn. The Stiege station is especially well-known among railway enthusiasts for the turning loop that has existed there since 1984.
The station was opened by the Gernrode-Harzgerode Railway Company with the completion of the section of the branch line from Güntersberge to Stiege on December 1, 1891. Six months later, on May 1, 1892, the extension from Stiege to Hasselfelde followed. On July 15, 1905, the GHE opened a branch line from Stiege to Eisfelder Talmühle, thereby establishing a connection between the GHE network and the likewise meter-gauge Nordhausen-Wernigerode Railway Company and its Harzquerbahn. This gave Stiege a rail connection towards Nordhausen.
