North of the Propsteikirche, directly at the Emswehr, stands a prominent building, the so-called "Große Mühle" - today known as the Christoph-Bernsmeyer-Haus. A coat of arms stone on the gable reports of a major renovation in 1754, which was planned by the Westphalian Baroque architect Johann Conrad Schlaun.
In 1976/1977, the former gristmill was taken over by the Order of the Mauritzer Franciscan Sisters. The founder of this order was Father Christoph Bernsmeyer (1777-1858), who lived for over 50 years as an assistant pastor in Telgte. For a long time, the Christoph-Bernsmeyer-Haus served as a recreation home for the sisters of the order. Today, sisters of the Maria Stella Matutina order live there.
On the right bank at the Emswehr, there used to be an oil and fulling mill, which was demolished around 1900.
