Otter trail Wahrenholz North

Always on the trail of the Eurasian otter, this otter path leads from Wahrenholz to the north. The path and the stations along the way provide insights into the danger zones for the Eurasian otter and offer many opportunities to experience nature, for example, by exploring a stream barefoot. The Elbe Seitenkanal and the historic water mill in Wahrenholz are also visited.

In total, four otter paths invite you to experience the landscape from the perspective of a Eurasian otter. The Eurasian otter is a very rare and secretive animal. It reacts very sensitively to changes in its habitat. In other words, when streams, rivers, ponds, and lakes are in good ecological condition, they will sooner or later be inhabited by the Eurasian otter as a habitat. Due to extensive nature conservation measures, the Eurasian otter has returned to the lowlands of the Ise, a small river in the district of Gifhorn. Even near the Otter Center in Hankensbüttel, wild Eurasian otters and their tracks have been seen.

The otter paths lead to these areas to sharpen the view on the habitats of the Eurasian otter. A total of 24 stations equipped with steel otters invite you to learn firsthand about the life of the Eurasian otter and nature conservation on site.
