WWu Former railway lines Luxembourg

On this cycling route, you will often follow some national bike paths in Luxembourg. These bike paths follow old railway tracks. For more information on these bike paths, visit: https://www.visitluxembourg.com/nl/te-doen/natuur-tochten/fietspaden-suggesties/nationale-fietspaden.

You start in Ettelbruck and follow the Luxembourg bike path PC16 (Voie Chantable de la Moyenne Sûre) along the banks of the Sauer River through Diekirch to Wallendorf.

From here, you will follow a section of the PC3 bike route (Fietsroute des Trois Rivières) to Echternach. This route again follows the Sauer, which today marks the border between Luxembourg and Germany. So far, the route has been very flat.

From Echternach, it’s a peaceful ride along the beautiful bike path PC2 (Radweg Echternach) to Junglinster. A few kilometers before Junglinster, you leave the old railway and encounter steeper climbs.

Inside, you cycle from Junglinster along a downhill stretch with quite steep inclines towards Heffingen, where you follow the PC5 bike path (Ernz Blanche Radweg) via Larochette to Medernach. Here, you pass by the castle of Larochette.

Between Medernach and Schieren, you will need to tackle some additional trails and cycle until you reach the banks of the Alzette River. You follow this until you start in Ettelbruck.

The tour is conducted on well-trafficked asphalt roads where you can cover many kilometers on bike paths. The route is also suitable for racing bikes, but not for large groups.
