Engelrode was a castle and a country house in Zoelmond, in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It was also known as Den Toorn, Engelrade, Engenrade and Engenrode.De oldest known writings about Engelrode date back to 1470 when Gijsbert van Buren Ottensoon received the house and homestead "Engelroede" as a fief from the Duke of Guelders. What it looked like back then is unclear: the first known images are from the 18th century. At that time, it was owned by members of the Van Leeuwen family. In 1714, a son and heir of Clasina van Leeuwen sold the house to Elisabeth van Brummelen, widow of Dirc van Rijnberk. In 1845, the house was no more than a farm, and eventually the current mansion was built. It was not until 1981 that descendants of Van Rijnberk sold the house again, this time to two Van Wely brothers who had been tenants of the Van Rijnberks since 1948 and still own it.
