As a result of the important transport function of the Vecht, many factories were established along the water. The row of houses in the bend of the Vecht between Loenen and Vreeland belonged to such a factory. The hamlet is called the Glashut. The name recalls the glass factory that stood here at the end of the 19th century, near oostervecht country estate. Here bottles were made for breweries and distilleries in Amsterdam and the surrounding area. There were two melting furnaces, so that production could be done 24 hours a day. In 1897 the factory ceased and was demolished. The Glashut consists of workers' houses for the employees in the factory. Because these often came from Germany, the name 'Glashutte' was used, which means glass furnace. In the early 70s, the houses were partly merged and restored by former resident architect J.Leicher. The driveway bears his nameplate.
