De Houw is a neighbourhood in the Dutch province of Groningen. It is located halfway between Ulrum and Leens, south of the N361. De Houw is located on an old salt marsh wall that was formed in the early Middle Ages. From the 9th century onwards, mounds were erected on the salt marsh wall. Two of them are located at De Houw; the inhabited Grote Houw on the north and southeast side of the road and the now uninhabited Kleine Houw on the southwest side of the road. In the vicinity we find the Houwsterwierden and the Westerhouw farm. In 1839 an old pillory was placed near De Houw as a boundary marker between the two municipalities.
