Municipal boundaries

The soft cart track in the heathland on this hill marks the northernmost tip (literally!) of the former municipality of Doorn. On the Noordhout estate, the borders of the municipalities of Driebergen-Rijsenburg, Maarn-Maarsbergen and Doorn came together. In 2006, these three municipalities, together with Leersum, Amerongen and Overberg, were merged into the municipality of Utrechtse Heuvelrug. Since that time, the 'three-country point' on top of the route of the natural gas pipeline has formally become a thing of the past.

Because the Utrecht - Arnhem railway line crosses 600 meters of Doorn's territory here, soldiers stationed in Doorn had to guard this section during the Second World War. Just after the Second World War, the A12 motorway was built next to the railway line. On 8 October 2013, the Mollebos ecoduct over the Utrecht - Arnhem motorway and railway line was opened near the hunting lodge. This infrastructure makes it difficult to reach this beautiful heathland from Doorn.
