Dirksland - Oude Tonge round Tulips 2022

Routing Recreational cycling - most beautiful

This 36km cycle route departs from Dirksland. Then we will visit: Nieuwe-Tonge, Oude-Tonge, Battenoord and Herkingen, after which we return to Dirksland.
The route offers a variety of villages, fields and water. The agricultural companies grow all kinds of crops on the fields, including tulips for bulb cultivation in the spring.
In Battenoord you can find the flamingos here in winter!! You have a good view of it from the watchtower. In the summer, these flamingos stay in the Zwilbrocker Venn in Germany (just across the border near Groenlo).
After Herkingen, another piece of the ancient creek system from before the reclamation: the "Paardengat".

Tulip status:
Sunday 10 April 2022:
On a number of fields, the purple/red tulips are already in full bloom, the yellow tulip fields are also gently blooming, while other fields are still completely "in-the-green". Everything is expected to be in full bloom in two to three weeks. After that, the tulips will soon be "beheaded" and everything is over.

Advice: If you visit a tulip field, make sure you do not damage the tulips.
Unfortunately, every year there are people who think that they have to pose between the tulips and (accidentally) damage tulip bulbs or pick the tulips. Bulb cultivation is "the sandwich" of the farmers. Here and there they already feel compelled to fence off their fields to prevent damage. Be restrained.
