Through the forests to Schijf

This 38-kilometer-long cycling route leads through the nature reserves between Etten-Leur and Schijf.
While cycling, you will pass through the Pannenhoef, the Moeren, Wallstein and over the Alte Buisse Heide and Rucphense Heide.
The cycling route mainly runs through the former peat extraction areas between Etten-Leur and Schijf.

The starting and ending point is the town hall in Etten-Leur.

After the Ice Age, the ice began to melt and water puddles formed in the landscape.
Over time, peat layers grew, which were later used as fuel in the Middle Ages.
Due to the high demand for raised bog, the peat industry emerged in the Netherlands.
To transport peat from the peat extraction areas to places such as Bergen op Zoom, Roosendaal, Oudenbosch, and Breda, peat channels were constructed.
These peat channels and signs of these former peat channels can still be found in the Brabant landscape today.
