June 6, 1944, D-Day. The long-awaited landing of the Allies on the coast of Normandy is a fact. In the Netherlands, the arrival of the liberators is awaited with bated breath. Because of the approach from the south, American soldiers were the first to set foot on Dutch soil in Eijsden-Margraten. There is still a lot to see and hear from this turbulent time. So much that you better take the bike!

Liberation of the Heuvelland is one of the three wo cycling routes with the common theme Cycling to freedom. During this route you cycle past various war sights in the South Limburg Hill Country. You will discover, among other things, the Old Hickory Monument and the Mescherhei listening stone. With the perfectly signposted junction system, navigation is almost automatic. You can start at FP 100. Parking is then possible at the Laathof (Laarstraat 3 in Mesch).
