This walking route is one of four walks specially set out for the 10th anniversary of the municipality of Vaals in 2021. The global Cittaslow quality mark is proof of quality for the way in which municipalities (with less than 50,000 inhabitants) deal with their living environment, landscape, regional products, hospitality, environment, infrastructure, cultural history and preservation of identity. During the Cittaslow walks you will discover why the municipality of Vaals is Cittaslow! The Cittaslow Rondje jemèngde (= dialect for 'municipality') shows you Cittaslow Vaals in all its beauty. This challenging walk around Vaals, Vijlen and Lemiers goes up and down, through forest and buildings, on forest paths and quiet country roads, past idyllic places and locations with a beautiful view. Along the way you will enjoy the smallest museum in the Netherlands and historical gems such as the castles Vaalsbroek, Jen Hoes and Bloemendal, to the tranquility of the green outskirts of the municipality of Vaals. And from the cosiness in Vijlen, Holset and the center of Vaals to authentic hamlets such as Melleschet and Rott. In short, this walk is Cittaslow at its best! During the walk you will pass all the Cittaslow ambassadors in the municipality of Vaals. The Cittaslow ambassadors are companies or organizations that propagate the Cittaslow philosophy in the products they make and/or the services they offer.
