Potsdam [ˈpɔt͡sdam] is een zelfstandige stad en met ongeveer 180.000 inwoners de meest bevolkte stad en hoofdstad van de deelstaat Brandenburg. Potsdam, gelegen aan de Havel, grenst in het zuidwesten aan Berlijn en is een groei centrum in het stedelijk gebied, dat ongeveer 4,5 miljoen inwoners telt.
De stad is bekend om zijn erfgoed als voormalige residentiestad van de koningen van Pruisen met de talrijke en unieke kasteel- en parken en de belangrijke burgerlijke kernstad. De cultuurlandschappen werden in 1990 door UNESCO opgenomen als het grootste ensemble van Duitse werelderfgoedlocaties in de lijst van het wereldcultuur- en natuur-erfgoed van de mensheid. Sinds 2019 is Potsdam bovendien UNESCO-filmstad.
