AzureTrain walk Noorderkempen 01: from Kapellen via the Brasschaat nature reserves to Heide
Except for the beginning and the end, this route only travels on unpaved paths through extensive forest and heathlands. From Kapellen station we almost immediately look for the old military railway line from Borgerhout to the Hoogboom barracks. It starts at the fortress of Kapellen, and takes you past some German bunkers from 1917. Then it goes through the nature reserve De Uitlegger, along the Antitankgracht, to the mighty fortress of Brasschaat. We reach Perron Noord, a remnant of the army camp Noord, and now a sunny garden café. Then we go through the vast forest and heathland of the Klein Schietveld and reach the station of Heide, where you can go to a chip shop and the cozy café 't Centrum.
