Immovable religious heritage in Dudzele

Cycle route along the Dudzeelse chapels.
This cycle route was created on the occasion of the cooperation project 'Museums in the Zwin region', where the theme for 2008 is 'religious heritage'. Since this theme is very extensive, we make the choice for 'immovable religious heritage in Dudzele'. Specifically, we discuss the chapels (memorial and stake chapels) and façade niches. We take the area east of the Boudewijn canal that stretches from the border with Oostkerke to the Kruisabele district. It is of course impossible to make a complete reconstruction of all the chapels that once stood in Dudzele or decorated the facades. Many disappeared when demolishing houses, road works, etc. The facades of newly built houses no longer have room for wall niches, popular devotion has also experienced a sharp decline this century. A small exhibition with some more information, all photos and some images will start on 6 July 2008 in the local history museum 'De Groene Tente' (open every first Sunday of the month - Amaat Vynckestraat - entrance sports grounds) and will last until the end of the year.
