Nivelles to Seneffe

This 20 km circuit, suitable for all types of bikes, is ideal for a family outing in the heart of Roman Païs, in the province of Walloon Brabant.

This is an ideally located RAVeL. You will barely find it a hundred meters from the Grand'Place de Nivelles, dominated by the beautiful collegiate church!

We leave the city atmosphere of Nivelles quite quickly. Just walk on the greenway and we enter a completely different environment, with fields and bushes. The rural environment of this Brabant city is resolutely green. After 7 kilometers, we reach Arquennes and the Brussels-Charleroi canal.

Leaving the village, we follow the old canal from Brussels to Charleroi, which exudes a certain charm. This waterway was built in the early 19th century, when both cities experienced increasing demographic and industrial development.

It was a titanic task as more than 50 locks had to be built between the two cities. Today the towpath, on which the horses pulled the boats, has become a RAVeL that we follow quietly to Seneffe.

For the return, we use the old railway line 141 which crosses the surrounding forests.

20 km h/t. A course without difficulties. Be careful when crossing the N27 motorway between Seneffe and Arquennes.

Departure
Follow the RAVeL (line 141) which passes in front of the station car park.

Signage
Follow signs RAVeL 141 towards Arquennes. In the village, follow RAVeL 2 along the Brussels-Charleroi canal to Seneffe. The pre-RAVeL 141 return to Arquennes starts at the Centre de l'Eau in Seneffe (Rue Rouge Croix).
