From Grand Hornu to the pass

This is a visit accessible to all and leads to the best sites of our heritage. A prestigious starting point! The Grand-Hornu mining site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the jewels of European industrial heritage from the 19th century. Today, this site is also one of the most important artistic showcases of contemporary creation.

As we pedal through the cobbled streets at the exit of the mine site, the RAVeL appears. A little further on the green road, sculptures follow one another: here in Boussu, art has conquered the streetscape. We cross a former industrial region: only the slag heaps and a mine shaft from the mining period remain.

While driving, we notice that the Borinage has become resolutely green. A little further we cross another RAVeL and another. At the time, the area was crossed by railway lines on which coal was transported from the mines.

Today, the old railway tracks have been transformed into green roads, which users and other "slow" users appreciate very much. Finally, we arrive at the Pass, the Science Adventure Park where the past meets the future. The region has resolutely drawn the map of the future!

Good to know!: Mons and the surroundings of the city can be discovered via different thematic routes such as the Van Gogh circuit, UNESCO heritage, memory tourism, or the historic heart of Mons.

Departure
On the Grand-Hornu mining site, follow the cobbled street Henri Degorge on the right. Cycle around the site along Rue des Arts. Turn right onto Allée Verte. The RAVeL leaves on the right, 100 meters further.
