La Roche - around the meander of the Ourthe

With a spectacular view over the Ourthe and a visit to La Roche !

The route starts at the Hostellerie de la Claire Fontaine (large free car park - restaurant + terrace), but of course it can also start in La Roche .

The nice thing about starting from the hotel is that you are halfway to La Roche with its shops and restaurants and this way you can make a day trip with a more extensive visit of the city.

The hike starts over the bridge over the Ourthe and then climbs up and down back to the Ourthe. Follow the blue mountain bike route 2 from the bridge to the cemetery (see below). Climb back to the N89, where a covered picnic area offers a nice view of La Roche (at least when there are no leaves on the trees).

Cross the N89 and up a steep climb , but don't take it all the way as it turns right towards the cemetery. After that The descent to La Roche begins via Rue de Cohette. Another mountain bike route also ends here, which is also marked with blue arrows.

After the break in the town there is still a longer ascent, but at the top you get a picture of a view over the valley of the Ourthe, towards Hotton at the starting point of the paragliders.

Continue over the ridge to go back down and join the N833 at the Hostellerie.

2014 - R2023: The busy Rue de Cielle is bypassed and diverted to the cemetery. Ascent to the Corumont Death Trail via a less steep path. Vecpré avoided by turning right on the descent to the starting point.
