Herford and the Southwest - City and Countryside (Day trip HF7)

This largely rural circuit leads through the diverse landscape in the south and west of Herford. Starting from Herford, you first head west into the Füllenbruch nature reserve. Information boards here provide information about flora and fauna. The route continues through the hilly cultural landscape of Enger, where it passes by two impressive Sattelmeier farms. The Sattelmeier of Enger are said to have been allies of Widukind and held a prominent social position in the Middle Ages. Today, the farms are among the largest in the Ravensberg region.
Heading towards Stedefreund, there are some inclines and descents waiting to be tackled, so a certain level of fitness is required for this circuit. On this section, you will pass through several stream valleys before crossing the Aa river after a short detour into the urban area of Bielefeld. The circuit then offers a particularly charming entrance to Herford along the Werre river.
The tour follows a large part of dedicated cycle paths or paved agricultural roads with minimal car traffic. Only a total of 2.5 km of the route goes along roads with traffic.
Those wishing to drive to the route by car should not start in Herford but instead use the parking lot at the Elverdissen outdoor pool, for example.
