Discovery loop Steinbruch Schlupkothen

Walking and hiking enthusiasts experience the abandoned quarry Schlupkothen, which has been reclaimed by nature. The rugged cliffs and the turquoise-green water of the groundwater lake are fascinating. Lucky visitors may catch a glimpse of eagle owls nesting in the quarry wall. Remnants of old industrial facilities recall the former limestone extraction. Interested individuals can stand directly above the water on a viewing platform. A nature and industrial history trail leads around the quarry. It is recommended to follow this trail on the way back.

The discovery loop turns into a forest area. Hikers pass through a wild and romantic forest that changes its color from lush green in autumn to various shades of gold. Those who take their time will discover new facets of the sometimes mystical-looking tree population. The path continues past the edge of the field to the PanoramaRadweg niederbergbahn, leading to the "Cathedral Schlupkothen". From here, the route goes back through the forest to the quarry, then through the nature reserve back to the starting point. A visit to the Zeittunnel Wülfrath or the idyllic niederbergischen Wülfrather Old Town is also worthwhile.
